We were thrilled that we were shortlisted for two awards in the Craven Community Champions 2017 series. Particularly as we learnt last year just how much great work goes on for charitable causes across Craven. 2017 was no exception.
Looking through the list of winners and runners up, the commitment and passion that people throughout Craven dedicate to their charities is clear. The two categories we were nominated for were the ‘Greener Craven Award’ and ‘Best Community Group’. We were all thrilled to see the realisation of the dream for the Langcliffe Community Garden Trust, who won the Greener Craven category. They have created a community garden space that enables many Langcliffe residents to use a space that is not only green, beautiful and benefits nature but allows neighbours to meet and socialise.
We were nominated with two other fantastic groups for the Best Community Group award: Scoff Cafe and Looking Well Written. Both groups serve to offer a genuine space for community and would have been worthy winners. Both food and literature respectively can unite groups so successfully and both of these groups demonstrate that an idea, a bit of determination and a good deal of getting out there and making it happen and make a real difference to people’s lives. But on this occasion, our work as a ‘Friends’ group to inspire community engagement was rewarded with the prize, which we are all extremely thrilled about.
We would like to thank Craven District Council for organising the event and the judges for giving their time and consideration. It is always inspiring to see stories and meet people who are doing great things. We are also grateful to the Coniston Hotel for hosting the event and making it such a lovely and enjoyable experience. And of course we would like to thank the sponsors of the prizes, most of all Keelham Farm shop Skipton for this category. They have also generously allocated two months of their bag charges to come to us this year for our FoAP Play Park fund.
It was a fabulous evening at the Coniston Hotel and time to kick start our plans for Aireville Park fundraising in 2018. Watch this space!
